In order to min­imise the risk of flood­ing and unwant­ed over­spill into receiv­ing waters dur­ing storm events, the city of Shang­hai is plan­ning a 15 km-long tun­nel with a diam­e­ter of 10 meters beneath the Riv­er Suzhou.
